Hood Canal Back To Menu Report from Bruce Farrar 10/21/06 The Hood Canal continues to be one of my favorite places to paddle; the photos that accompany this report show why. There were three of us on the water on this particular outing and it was a perfect day… I only wish we could have spent six hours on the water instead of three. Our launch point was at the Shellfish Laboratory at Pt. Whitney (see directions below) near Quilcene. The beach is very nice, it seems to be very protected and there is no charge for launching or parking. We paddled south along the shore for about three miles then got out at a small public beach to stretch the legs and reset the butt-o-meter. There are other great places to see on The Hood so if you want to know more about a few of them, let me know. Directions to Point Whitney Boat Ramp on Dabob Bay - From Seattle, take the Bainbridge or Kingston ferry. Follow signs to 104/Hood Canal Bridge. Take 104 west to Highway 101, go south past Quilcene. Just after mile post 303, turn east 1.8 mi on Bee Mill Rd. The boat ramp is at end of the road next to Shellfish Laboratory.
